I don't know if any of this is right so take this with a grain of salt, but I do like using marines so I use a lot of them. they do this so you send a good amount of divisions in and then they cut you off from the port and then your out all those divisions I have seen some players who let you take ports on purpose and have a decent reserve army a few provinces in. Also, be careful about sending reinforcement to the port you took. Your main goal is to cap the port so make sure you do it quick.
So I like to do 2 marine divisions hit the port and have 3-4 hit the provinces on both sides of the port. If you are doing it in MP you may want to do a couple naval invasions for 1 port. They rest is just like regular ground and pound. While this is happening pour more divisions in through the port you took.
Make sure you set up a regular offense line from the landing area so your troops push out as soon as they land. So if your playing single player make sure your landing in a port and hit with about 4-6 divisions. You just don't need very many for your army (depends on who your playing OFC!)
They plan naval invasions faster than regular troops would. Ok so first, marines are really good, they don't get the big maluas for attacking from sea. Are you playing multi player or single player? & by 'spanked' you do you mean your troops were stopped from even taking 1 prov or did they react and push you make to the ocean?
